David A. Shelby is a Rowan County native. He graduated from East Rowan High School in 1984. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Catawba College, where he graduated cum laude in 1988. He has a Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Law and has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 1991. He is admitted to the Middle and Western Districts of the United States District Courts in North Carolina. 

Since he began practicing law in 1991, Mr. Shelby’s practice has been limited to handling workers’ compensation claims, personal injury, and Social Security Disability matters.  He has argued numerous cases in front of the Full Commission of the North Carolina Industrial Commission as well as cases before the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.  He is a member of the of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Division and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice’s Workers’ Compensation Section.

Mr. Shelby married the former Wendy Grubb of Davie County in 1994 and they have two adult children.
